ProjectsCustomized MappingEntrix, an international environmental consulting firm needs site maps for field assessments of known contamination sites for their client, a major petroleum company. Enhanced GIS improved site map content by including data relevant to the client. Orbis added the following: Detailed residential aerial photos, wetlands, bodies of water, agricultural areas, forested areas, natural heritage priority sites, critical habitat for rare species, additional known contamination sites, and scale reference for contamination investigations.
"These are great...better than the example we sent you. ...the aerial photos really support the land use coloring well in that you can see the trees in the forest area, and the buildings in the urban area. ...nice job!!!" -Entrix Environmental ModelingFB Environmental conducts assessments for phosphorus concentrations within watersheds for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Previous models were done manually, making the process extremely time consuming. Orbis streamlined and digitized the process, layering multiple factors to create phosphorus "Hot Spot" maps.
Orbis combined: "Orbis...developed a flexible and cost-effective product while remaining technically sound and providing scientifically valid data. I was particularly impressed with [Orbis'] problem solving ability." -FB Environmental Consulting Land Use Investigations & Historical ForensicsThe Osher Map Library needed maps tracing Portland, Maine's expansion through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Orbis created a series of museum-quality composite images for use in their "Changing Peninsula" exhibit.
This composite image shows Portland, Maine in 1866. Purple areas show filled land, as of 1866. The red shading shows the extent of the urban area in 1866. The aerial photograph in the background shows Portland today. |
